Current Work

Since 2005, the new body of work by Richard Humann has concentrated on sculptural creations of small scale, static amusement rides combined with historical execution devices. The work merges the dichotomous elements of public spectacle and private experience, mechanized regalement and organized punishmentnd the thick gray line between right and wrong. New pieces include the Bumper Cars, Octopus, Airplane, Teacup, Ferris Wheel, Test Your Strength, Dunk The Clown, Shooting Gallery, Wave Swinger and Tilt-A-Whirl. All work is handcrafted in bass wood in reduced scale and displayed as dioramas. These works are featured in American Craft magazine (2007).

“Product liability is not my job”, said Mark Conners, safety director for Richfield Toys, Inc. “The safety of the toys we manufacture is a design problem. Leave it to the engineers.” Engineers have a role to play, of course, “said Amanda Garner, CEO of Richfield Toys. “But they are more function-oriented than safety-oriented. We need all our products to be scrutinized from a safety perspective.”

That depends on what the definition is of his job. If 'safety' refers to workplace health and safety, then his job does not encompass product safety. If his job description DOES refer to product sfaety, then he is responsible.

The design engineers would ALWAYS Have a product safety brief for their designs.
