Why were the bronze age people so fascinated with bogs?
Why did they go through all that trouble to make Gold Torcs, jewelry, shields etc just to sacrifice them to a bog. I understand that they were votive offerings from books i have read. But what is a bog, What is the make-up of a bog, Is it decayed rotten woodland or where a lake used to be????
It's believed that they considered the waters of the bog as a doorway to the Gods - it wasn't water, and it wasn't earth it was something inbetween.
