Getting To Know Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog, better known by his fans as the blue blur, has been running across our screens for almost 20 years. Since 1991, sonic has occupied store shelves and the top 10 rankings among the ten best sold video games lists as well. Despite a few setbacks with a few disappointing titles like ‘Sonic Heroes’, Sega of America has emerged victorious with a video game character that rivals Nintendo’s Mario in every respect. Sonic has evolved to include more characters known as the ‘Freedom Fighters’, stronger enemies, and plenty of new weapons and devices that make the sonic playing experience an ever more exiting one.
As the years have passed, Sega has had time to invest in the sonic characters, as many new features are added to the games as they are released. Among these additions you will find numerous new characters that join Sonic in his adventures named The Freedom Fighters’. Among which you will find Miles “Tails” Prower, better known as Tails, he is Sonics best bud, a young golden yellow fox with two tails, which he is able to use as a propeller to fly like a helicopter. Then there is Knuckles The Echidna, a red, teenage echidna with spiky dreadlocks that are combed down. The name derives from the four knuckles, two in each hand, which are actually sharp spikes used as weapons. Knuckles job since inception has been to guard the Master Emerald located in Angel Island. Of course there is also Amy Rose Hedgehog, a pink humanoid hedgehog who likes to consider herself as Sonic’s girlfriend. Chasing sonic around hoping to get some attention, most likely falls into trouble where she needs Sonic’s help. Among a few other friends, a few enemies have also been created such as ‘Jet The Hawk’, who thinks he can outrun sonic, a very destructive character, considered to be Sonic’s arch-rival, named ‘Shadow Sonic’. Finally at the top of the list, is Dr. Robotnik, also known as Eggman, sonic’s worse enemy.
We could say that when faced with the challenge of adding novelty to sonic games, Sega has been able to offer new enticing features to new sonic game titles as they become available. Another aspect of sonic games which keep evolving with time are the technological improvements, which are always very well received, such as screen resolutions, background art, and excellent melodies that accompany game play. Thus, even if Sonic is almost 20 years old, there is always something new to entice his fans, which are now looking forward to sonic’s latest release ‘Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games’.
